ChatGPT’s new features are here to change how you search and shop

ChatGPT has rolled out new features aimed at improving shopping, citation, and search experiences, including on WhatsApp. Users can now find products more efficiently with enhanced visuals and direct purchase links. Additionally, the chatbot now provides multiple citations and highlighted text, making it easier to verify information quickly.

OpenAI’s ChatGPT has expanded significantly since its launch, evolving from a basic Q&A tool into a platform capable of searching the web, generating images, and creating videos. While some of these advanced features require a paid subscription for full access, many are still available to free users in a limited form. Recently, OpenAI announced several new features designed to further enhance the ChatGPT experience for everyone.

ChatGPT’s new features are here to save you time and effort

OpenAI has begun rolling out four major new features for ChatGPT, aimed at improving the user experience across shopping, search, and citation verification. The updates include a better shopping experience, search integration in WhatsApp, enhanced citations, and trending search topics with autocomplete.

The best part: these updates are not restricted to select users, though full rollout may take a few days. Once live, users will be able to find, compare, and buy products faster through ChatGPT. This upgrade is driven by three core improvements: independent product listings, visual product details (including pricing and reviews), and direct, commission-free purchase links.

All of these features are accessible to everyone—including users who are not logged in.

ChatGPT’s new features go beyond helping you shop more efficiently. OpenAI has also introduced tools to improve information verification. The chatbot can now display multiple citations for a response, making it easier to cross-check facts. In addition, a new highlight UI points out exactly which source confirms a particular statement.

OpenAI’s recent updates also include broader availability of its WhatsApp integration. The new “Search in WhatsApp” feature lets users message ChatGPT directly at +1-800-242-8478 to receive up-to-date answers, including live sports scores, as highlighted in a recent OpenAI post on X.

These search and shopping upgrades come amid reports that OpenAI is showing serious interest in acquiring Google Chrome. Speculation suggests Google may eventually be forced to sell Chrome as part of regulatory divestment efforts. If OpenAI were to take over, tight integration between ChatGPT and Chrome would likely follow—potentially replacing Chrome’s default new tab page with ChatGPT, much like Microsoft’s move to embed Copilot in Edge (via Deskmodder).

In short, if OpenAI gains control of Chrome, it could bring significant and far-reaching changes to one of the world’s most-used browsers.
