Google Chat for Android Is Finally Getting Gemini AI Features and Message Scheduling
One of Google Chat’s greatest strengths is its seamless integration with the broader Google Workspace ecosystem—something that’s especially useful for workplace collaboration. Last October, Google introduced several Gemini-powered AI features to Chat, but those enhancements were limited to the web version, leaving Android users waiting. Now, that’s about to change.
According to a recent APK teardown by Android Authority, Google is preparing to bring Gemini’s intelligent features to Google Chat on Android, alongside a much-requested option to schedule messages.
Gemini Comes to Mobile
On the web, Gemini can already:
-
Summarize long threads you’ve missed (e.g., after time off)
-
Answer specific questions about a conversation
-
Identify and highlight action items so you can jump straight into work
These AI-driven capabilities are now making their way to the Android version of Google Chat, which is embedded within the Gmail app. During testing, Android Authority was able to activate the Gemini features—complete with a visible Gemini icon in the top bar. Screenshots show Gemini in action, helping users quickly catch up on discussions and even respond directly within threads.
Why It Matters
This update closes a major gap between the web and mobile experience for Google Chat users. As more people work across devices, feature parity becomes critical. The addition of AI-powered summaries, context-aware responses, and message scheduling makes Google Chat on Android significantly more functional—especially for on-the-go professionals relying on timely collaboration.
No official release date has been confirmed yet, but signs point to a public rollout coming soon.
Message Scheduling Is Finally Coming to Google Chat
While Google Chat has seen a steady stream of feature updates recently, message scheduling has remained a noticeable gap—until now. According to Android Authority, a recent APK teardown of the Gmail app revealed code strings indicating that scheduling messages will soon be possible within Chat.
The feature will allow users to compose messages and set them to be delivered at a specific date and time—a valuable tool for coordinating with colleagues across time zones or sending reminders without disrupting off-hours.
In addition, Google plans to include a dedicated section within Chat for viewing and managing all scheduled messages, making it easier to stay organized and make changes if plans shift.
Both the Gemini AI features and message scheduling tools were uncovered in the backend of the Gmail app, where Google Chat is integrated on Android. Although neither feature is publicly available yet, the Gemini interface looks polished in testing—hinting that a full Android rollout could be just around the corner.
