Google Makes Its AI-Powered Premium Plan Free for U.S. College Students
Google has announced that its Google One AI Premium plan is now free for college students in the U.S.—a move that could provide major support for academic work and research. Normally priced at $20 per month, the plan includes advanced AI tools and 2TB of cloud storage. Students who sign up now will receive free access through June 30, 2026.
To qualify, students must register before June 30, 2025, using a valid .edu email address. Once signed up, they’ll get full access to a powerful set of AI tools designed to enhance learning, research, and productivity.
The plan includes access to Gemini 2.5 Pro, which powers features like Deep Research—a tool that summarizes complex topics and converts lengthy documents into audio format. Students can also use NotebookLM Plus for more advanced summarization and learning features, and bring Gemini directly into Docs, Sheets, and Slides for intelligent assistance.
The offer also includes access to experimental AI-powered video generation tools like Veo 2 and Whisk, further expanding creative possibilities for student projects.
This announcement follows similar student-focused initiatives from OpenAI and Anthropic, reflecting a growing trend among major AI companies to invest in education and support the next generation of learners.
Students will also have access to NotebookLM Plus, which offers enhanced tools for studying and audio-based summarization. In addition, they can use Gemini directly within Docs, Sheets, and Slides to assist with writing, organizing data, and presentations.
The plan also includes access to AI video generation models like Veo 2 and Whisk, opening up creative opportunities beyond traditional academic work.
Earlier this year, both OpenAI and Anthropic introduced similar offers for students—highlighting a broader shift in the tech industry to invest in educational tools and support student learning through advanced AI capabilities.
