Google Unveils NotebookLM App Ahead of Official Launch at I/O 2025

Google Debuts NotebookLM AI App for Android and iOS, Beta Launch Set for I/O 2025

Google has officially revealed its AI-powered NotebookLM app, now listed on both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. While currently unavailable for download, the app is set to enter beta in the coming weeks, with its official rollout expected during the I/O 2025 developer conference.

NotebookLM App Features Tabs and Audio Overview for Offline Playback

According to images shared by 9to5Google, the main screen of Google’s NotebookLM app includes tabs such as “Recent,” “Shared,” “Title,” and “Downloaded.” Below these tabs, users will find individual cards, each with its own play button. Tapping the play button launches the Audio Overview feature, which allows users to generate podcast-style summaries. Notably, the feature supports background playback and offline access, making it convenient for on-the-go listening.

NotebookLM Offers Full-Screen Player and Seamless Content Uploading

The app also features a full-screen audio player enhanced with engaging sound effects, creating a more immersive listening experience. Users can chat directly with the AI host during playback, asking questions or diving deeper into the content.

At the bottom of the interface, a prominent “Create new” button lets users upload PDFs, website links, YouTube videos, or plain text—similar to the web version. NotebookLM is also integrated into the system share menu on mobile devices, making it easy to add new sources on the fly.

NotebookLM Mobile App Mirrors Web Layout with Enhanced Native Experience

When users open one of the content cards, the bottom navigation bar presents three sections: “Sources,” “Chat,” and “Studio,” closely mirroring the layout of the current web version. However, this native mobile app is designed to deliver a smoother, more fully integrated experience compared to its browser-based counterpart.

Tablet-Optimized Design for NotebookLM

Google has also unveiled the tablet-specific interface for the NotebookLM app. According to available details, the app is set to launch in beta over the coming weeks. The App Store listing shows May 20—coinciding with the first day of I/O 2025—as the expected release date. Users can already pre-register for the app on both the Google Play Store and the App Store.
